The Supreme Court on Monday remained firm on its order directing enquiry against former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha who sought recall of the order against him by taking refuge under a recent decision of the apex court discarding the Sahara-Birla diaries as “irrelevant” as evidence in order to direct prosecution against political
functionaries.
The apex court had last week directed the present CBI Director to investigate whether any criminality was committed by Sinha. The Court formed a prima facie view that Sinha influenced probe in cases pending with him by meeting certain accused in the coal scam at his residence, as revealed by the visitor logbook at his residence. Senior advocate Vikas Singh who appeared for Sinha said, “Supreme Court is one. How can an enquiry be sustained against me after the order in Sahara-Birla diariesIJ”
The bench headed by Justice MB lokur rejected the plea. It also asked CBI to file charge sheet in all pending coal scam cases by February-end.
