The fight against corruption seems to have gained momentum in Assam as the sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption grilled two Ministers of former Congress Government in last ten days. While former Social welfare minister Akon Bora was grilled earlier last week, the officials of the department grilled former Congress Minister Gautam Roy for his alleged nexus in some financial anomalies in the department.
Roy was grilled for four hours on Monday by different officials of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruptions. The Minister arrived in the office of the agency around 11 am on Monday and was released only after 3 pm. The Investigating agency might summon the Minister again, officials said.
While Akon Bora was Social Welfare Department Minister for over six years, Roy and another senior Congress leader Ajanta Neog and former CM Tarun Gogoi also held the portfolio of Social Welfare department for sometimes, during which time over Rs 2,000 crore have been siphoned off from the department. The scam involving over Rs 2,000 crore was unearthed only in November last year, particularly after the BJP Government took charge in the State.
