Mumbai Airport’s Air Cargo Complex (ACC) came under intense surveillance on late Wednesday afternoon after the security personnel found a note carrying a threat of a possible ISIS attack on the complex on the Republic Day, January 26.
Having discovered the note in one of the toilets of the ACC building, located around 3.5-kms away from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) sometime in the afternoon, the security personnel swung into action ands began assessing security set up in the cargo section.
“After we received the alert, the CISF, Mumbai Police and bomb squads began evacuating the security set-up in the entire cargo section. They launched a search of the cargo and people will now be allowed inside only after thorough screening,” a senior official connected with the city’s airport security set-up said.
Though they landed the threat note two months in advance, the airport security agencies are not taking any chances. Wednesday’s was the second occasion in recent years when the airport authorities received such a threat.
It may be recalled that in the last week of January 2016, the authorities had received a telephonic threat was received warning that the CSMIA would be blown up within next one fortnight. However, threat notwithstanding, no untoward incident happened. The authorities had then described the threat as a ‘non-specific one’.
