Road accident: Bus driver held for hitting Dy Commissioner

Saturday, 30 September 2017 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

A day after a Deputy Commissioner, a senior DANICS officer, was hit by a speeding cluster bus in North Delhi’s Roop Nagar area on Thursday, police arrested the bus driver identified as Aseemuddin on Friday.

Police said the accident took place at the underpass of Nangia Park when Deputy Commissioner of Rohini Zone, NDMC, SR Kataria was travelling in his Wagon R car at around 6.45 am on Thursday.

The senior DANICS officer was saved by the timely intervention of a Civl Defence volunteer who rushed him to a nearby nursing home instead of waiting for police to come.

Meanwhile, Kataria continues to be in a critical condition. Anil Sharma, who took Kataria to a nearby hopsital, told The Pioneer, “I was in the cluster bus number 108 at that time when the bus hit the Wagon R in which  Kataria was travelling. On seeing him bleeding profusely, I focused on getting him treated than getting hold of the bus driver.”

The volunteer said despite making a call to the PCR, he did not wait for the cops to come and instead he took the DANICS officer in an auto to a nearby nursing home from where the officer’s family was informed.
