Prohibitory orders in city revoked: Police

Thursday, 31 August 2017 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi Police on Wednesday clarified that they have lifted prohibitory orders imposed in the wake of incidents of arson in some parts of the national Capital following conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief in two rape cases. The police arrangements across the city, however, will continue, they added.

“Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were imposed in 11 out of 13 police districts of the national Capital. After reviewing the current law and order situation, Section 144 CrPc is being revoked,” Delhi Police Public Relations Officer Madhur Verma said.

He said that proper police arrangements ensured that no untoward incidents were reported from the national Capital.

However, additional forces shall remain deployed at sensitive locations, said the PRO, adding that strict vigil is being maintained.

Cases of torching of DTC buses and train coaches were reported from different parts of the city last week after Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in rape cases by a special CBI court in Panchkula in Haryana, following which a high alert was sounded in the national Capital.

Fifteen people were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the arson here. Apart from the 15 arrests, a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call about supporters of Dera chief creating a nuisance in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar.
