light scattered pre-monsoon rains were witnessed in several parts of the national Capital which has received 175.4 mm rainfall in June till now, the highest in the last 10 years. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered official for the city, received 52.6 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and recorded 0.4 mm rainfall after that, till 5.30 pm. “Till Thursday, the Safdarjung observatory has recorded 175.4 mm rainfall. It had received 150.9 mm rainfall in June in 2007,” said a MeT department official.The official, however, said that monsoon is yet to arrive in the Capital and is likely to hit the city in the next 24 to 48 hours.
The maximum temperature plunged to settle at 31.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal.
The MeT office has forecast overcast conditions along with the possibility of light to moderate rains and thundershowers for Friday. “The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle at 32 and 25 degrees respectively,” the weatherman said. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius while the maximum settled at 35 degrees Celsius.
