Miranda students back protest against selfie ban

Tuesday, 31 January 2017 | PARIDHI KHANDElWAl | New Delhi

Students of Miranda House are up in arms over notice issued to students of the School of Open learning (SOl), putting a ban on clicking selfies, combing hair and modelling on the Miranda House campus. Though the ban is not applicable to the girls of Miranda, they supported the SOl students’ protest against the order.

In support of SOl students, regular students could be seen combing and grooming themselves in the college lawns and corridors. Students were seen merrily clicking selfies on Monday.

Speaking to The Pioneer, students said that such decision will turn any individual rigid with fear.

Sharanya Dewan, a third year student of Miranda House said the decision is wrong.

Reacting to ban order, students of SOl College said that it is against individual liberty and is an “immature decision”.

Another student from SOl Kirti Singh said, students are angry because of the circular and this is the only thing which is being talked about in our class for the past few days. “It makes us upset that we are not school students on whom you can impose such rules. The weirdest thing is that instructions are only for SOl students and are not for the girls of Miranda House. We think we are being discriminated,” she said.

“We will defy the order and we will fight for what is right, maybe it will take time to change the mindset of but we have Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) with us,” she added.

Pratibha Jolly the College Principal refused to talk about the DCW notice, saying they have not received any such notice.
