A 35-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman when she became unconscious at a hotel in South-East Delhi’s Kalkaji.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East district, Romil Baaniya, said the accused has been identified as Harjeet Singh. As per the complaint, the woman had met the accused in August 2015 as he had called her on the pretext of a job.
“The duo had met at hotel legrande in Kalkaji and the accused offered her a cold drink. The woman fell unconscious on drinking it and after that the man allegedly raped the woman,” said the DCP
Once the victim gained consciousness, the accused threatened to upload her nude pictures on social media if she revealed the incident to anybody, said the police official, adding that he even extorted jewellery from her by blackmailing her.
Based on the statement of the woman, an FIR was registered at the Kalkaji Police Station on September 23 and the accused was arrested on September 25.
A Delhi Court on Tuesday remanded the accused to two days’ police custody, said the police officer. When asked whether the accused was related to the Aam Aadmi Party, the DCP said, “ So far no affiliation of the accused person was found with the AAP”.
