A 31-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his nephew over a long-standing property dispute in Southwest Delhi’s Chhawla area on Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Puneet. Police said that the family of the victim suspects the role of Devender, nephew of Puneet, in the attack.
Police said that the incident took place at around 8 am when Puneet, a resident of Kharkari Nahar village area, was heading towards his office in Gurugram.
A few metres away from his house, unidentified bike borne assailants came and opened indiscriminate firing at Puneet and fled from the spot.
locals present at the spot managed to inform the local police after which police rushed Puneet to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Family of Puneet told police that he was having dispute with his brother Surender over a plot of land.
On April 23, son of Surender, Devender had allegedly opened fire at Puneet but the latter managed to escape. Following which tensions prevailed between Devender and Puneet. The family of the victim had claimed that they had informed the local police about the danger to Puneet’s life. Although a case was registered but police did not arrest Devender. Further, the police had refused to provide protection to Puneet.
Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Chhawla police station against unknown persons. Further investigation is still on.
