A man, who killed a six-year-old boy on suspicion of peeping into their bathroom when his newly-maried wife was bathing and passing lewd comments in southeast Delhi’s Okhla Phase-2, was arrested on Friday, police said.

Deputy Comissioner of Police, South-East district, Romil Baaniya, said the accused has been identified as Rohit (19), who is the victim’s neighbour in Janta Jeevan Rajiv Camp in Okhla Phase-2.

Police said the accused confessed to have killed the boy and stuffed his body in a plastic bag and hid the body in a box bed in the house on Wednesday. The DCP said on September 27 a missing complaint was registered at the Okhla Industrial Area Police Station. Some locals informed police on noticing the strong stench.

Immediately, a police team started searching for Rohit who was absconding and his phone was found switched off.

“The accused was later found hiding fearing his arrest and confessed to the crime,” said the police officer. The accused told police that the boy’s father had also abused him once in front of his wife and he committed the murder as revenge

Police said the body was found decomposed and, thereafter, when investigations were started and neighbours were questioned, who said the house where the body was found belonged to Sarvani Devi.

The DCP said Rohit wanted to extort Rs 20,000 from victim’s father as he needed to repay a loan which he had taken from another person named Pappu and this is the main reason behind minor’s murder. The bag in which the victim was found carried the name Rukmani stamped across it. Rukmani is the daughter-in-law of Sarvani and the mother of Rohit. A shopkeeper said Rohit had bought a bag of atta from him and stuffed the body in it.

“On Wednesday, Rohit caught the victim peeping into their bathroom when his wife was bathing. Angered by this, the accused slammed the boy’s head against the edge of his bed after which he started bleeding profusely. Rohit did not know that the damage will be such and started panicking. He stuffed a piece of cloth in the boy’s mouth and hid him in the bed box,” said the DCP.

Asked if he sexually assaulted the boy, Rohit replied in the negative, police said. “But we will verify this angle once we receive the post-mortem report,” siad the DCP.
