Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a conman who allegedly made dubious calls to several people impersonating as the political secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Organisations General Secretary Ram lal and offered them top posts and other offers in the party while demanding money.
Though the police have conducted several raids but have not been able to nab the accused. A senior police official said that the accused identified as Deepak Kumar had been calling people using a common mobile number for a long time.
“He used to offer big posts in the BJP and would demand money. He told the people that he was calling from the office of Ram lal, the national general secretary of the BJP. The accused also told the people that he was the principal secretary to lal. A few people who got calls from the accused approached the head office of the BJP in Delhi where they came to know that they were being duped,” the police official said.
All the complainants mentioned a common number from where they got the calls and many were offered even top positions in the BJP party. This alarmed the party top brass, who then approached Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and asked him to probe the recurring incident which was denting the image of the national party.
“The mobile number of the accused was immediately put on surveillance and the Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) and Call Detail Records (CDR) of the mobile number were obtained from mobile service provider. As per CAF and supporting documents i.e. driving license submitted by the user/subscriber of the mobile number while obtaining the SIM the name and address of the user was revealed as Deepak Kumar, resident of B1/333, First Floor, New Kondli in Delhi. CDR of the mobile number was analysed and efforts were made to locate the suspect and when our team raided his residence it was found that no one in his name resided there,” said the police official.
