Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has instructed the Chief Secretary to act tough against officers who are responsible for the delay in the payments to drug vendors.
The order comes after reportedly threats from drug vendors to stop supply of medicines due to non-payment of bills.
Kejriwal also proposed to deduct the salaries, if required, of officers who are found responsible for delaying the payments of bills to suppliers, which often leads to a medicine crunch at Government
hospitals.
In a letter to Chief Secretary MM Kutty, the Chief Minister has instructed him to respond by 11 am on Wednesday to know the reason behind the non-payment of bills. He also asked the CS to build a system to ensure officers are held responsible for such
lapses. “Implement a system that if payment is not made within prescribed number of days after delivery of medicines, interest shall be paid and the interest will be deducted from the salaries of officers, including that of HOD of that department, “the letter reads.
Kejriwal has also asked Kutty to submit a comprehensive proposal by next Monday to streamline the process of mode of payments to drug vendors.
On May 26, Delhi Hospital Suppliers Association had written a letter to Kejriwal regarding the long pending payments from the Delhi Government hospitals.
