On being refused a cup of ice cream for free, a Delhi Police Constable along with his three friends allegedly thrashed a 42-year-old vendor in Outer Delhi's Rohini Sector 7.
Constable Joginder of the North Rohini Police Station was the one who led the attack on the ice cream vendor.
“When the police were informed, the Constable fled from the scene. He is on the run since then. Meanwhile, we have suspended him,”
confirmed a senior police officer. Among other injuries, Sandeep Kesari, the ice cream vendor, has suffered a fracture to his left leg.
The incident took place a little after midnight on Tuesday when Sandeep, who owns a Mother Dairy cart, was returning from Avantika Sector 3 to his home in Naharpur Village. He was stopped by the policeman and his friends who asked him to give ice cream.
Sandeep said, “The policeman asked me for a cup of ice cream. After he finished eating it, I asked him to pay but he refused. This led to a heated altercation where he started abusing me and even slapped me. When I tried to flee he took a stick and started beating me. In a bid to save myself, I went and hid in a lane but he found me and beat me up along with three other people.”
“It was only when someone called the police that a PCR van reached the spot and took me to a nearby hospital,” said the vendor who hails from Bihar.
A senior police officer said that the police team which reached the place of the incident managed to nab the three men, Kamal Kapoor, Mohit Sharma and Kamaldeep, who were part of the group which attacked the vendor.
However, the Constable has been evading arrest.
Police added that they have registered a case under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC at the North Rohini Police Station.
