Showing exemplary courage, a constable from the Farsh Bazaar police station caught a chain snatcher in Vishwas Nagar area of Farsh Bazar.
On November 24, an incident of chain snatching took place, which was caught on CCTV cameras. Following the incident, the Station House Officer of Farsh Bazaar had circulated the details of the snatchers to his personnel.
The officer said Vivek is being recommended for out of turn promotion for single handedly nabbing a very notorious criminal after an encounter in which he could have lost his life had he not displayed bravery and super quick responses.
On Wednesday afternoon, constable Vivek noticed the same criminals in the area. He challenged and chased them.The criminals opened fire on Vivek, who also fired in return. In retaliatory fire, one criminal got injured and was overpowered while other ran away
“The beat officers were briefed to be vigilant by SHO Sunil Kumar Sharma. Commissioner of Police Shri Amulya Patnaik has repeatedly laid special focus on preventive policing. He has himself briefed all the Division and Beat Staff of each and every district and stressed on being proactive during area patrols and deny any opportunity to the criminals to commit crime. On seeing policeman, they turned towards a narrow street. He asked them to stop for checking, but the criminals sped away. Vivek followed them and blocked their way. On being thus intercepted, they started firing at Vivek, who somehow managed to duck,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range).
They fired relentlessly. Displaying valour and courage, Vivek fired back in retaliation. The rider of the motorcycle suffered bullet below the knee and in right hand. In the process, one of them managed to run away while firing at Vivek. During interrogation, the apprehended accused Monu was found to be involved and arrested in 13 cases of robbery, snatching and attempt to murder cases in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
