Twenty two days of forced separation melted in a few seconds when Afroz reunited with her two-year-old son. On June 5 when Afroz and Aarif went to offer their prayers at the Jama Masjid, they were shattered to find their two-year-old boy missing. The Jama Masjid Police were immediately alerted. Sustained efforts of the team under SHO Anil Berwal bore fruits when the missing boy was found abandoned by his kidnappers in the Madipur area on June 28.

With the arrest of four people including three women, central district of the Delhi Police busted a gang who kidnapped young children to sell them to childless couples.

Mandeep Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police said, “The accused persons have been identified as Jaan Mohd, Radha, Sunita and Saroj. One of the other accused is still on the run. Efforts are on to nab him,” he added.

In the holy month of Ramzan, Aarif, a small time tailor of Karawal Nagar, had gone to Jama Masjid to offer prayers. Police said that the baby boy was kidnapped from Gate no. 1 of Jama Masjid when the parents lost track of their child in the crowd.

Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP Central Delhi said, “The child went missing at around 7:30 in the evening. Immediately an FIR was filed and the police started its investigation. Further when the complaint was filed it was brought to the notice that the child was below the age of 8 years and hence a team under the Standard Operating Procedure was formed and senior officers visited the crime spot and started their search.”

Investigators said that the Jama Masjid police station officials had been going all out to trace the child. The pictures of the boy were sent across Whatsapp groups, posters were put up and pictures were widely publicised through the use of media.

When the accused woman, Saroj found that the police are trying to find the child, she abandoned him at an isolated stretch at Madipur. The local police kept the child and handed him over to the Child Welfare Committee and from here, we brought the child and united him with his parents,” the police said.

“The accused revealed that one Jaan Mohd along with one Yusuf had kidnapped the child. Since they wanted to make quick bucks, Jaan had handed the child over to one Radha who further sold him to one Sonia for Rs 1 lakh. Sonia then further sold the kid to Saroj for Rs 1.80 lakhs.” the official added.

The accused also confessed that they had been running the gang for past four years and got in touch with childless couples whom they met in IVF centres, said a senior investigator.

The child was kept in Raghubir Nagar and the accused tried to sell him for Rs 2.5 lakhs in fake adoption process. When the news of the child’s search operation spread, the kidnappers sensed the danger of getting caught and hence they decided to leave the child stranded in Madipur, West Delhi.

One amongst three women called the PCR and informed them about the kid. This led to the arrest of the gang. Further investigation is in process and the police are trying their best to find the last suspect of the act.
