The Delhi BJP will announce the name of candidates for upcoming municipal corporation polls on Friday. The BJP’s list of candidates for the 272 wards of the three municipal bodies is being awaited as the party has decided not to field sitting councillors.
Many bigwigs of Delhi BJP, including former State president Satish Upadhyay, senior leaders Subhash Arya, former Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) president Ashish Sood, the Mayors and Chairmen of Standing Committees will miss the bus this time. A 19-member election committee has started the process of selection out of total 30 thousand applications received by Delhi BJP. “The party has short listed the name of three thousands applicants,” said a source in the Delhi BJP.
“The meetings among district president and Delhi MPs have been going on to select the candidates for the 272 municipal wards. Out of these names, two names from each ward are being shortlisted and the final candidate will be selected with the mutual consent of the district president and the MP,” said a Delhi BJP official.
The screening committee headed by Delhi president Manoj Tiwari, the committee has all the seven BJP MPs, Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju, co-incharge Tarun Chugh, Union Sports Minister and former State chief Vijay Goel, national general secretary Anil Jain, former Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, leader of Opposition (lOP) in Delhi Assembly and BJP MlA Vijender Gupta, all the three State unit general secretaries, Delhi unit organisational secretary Sidharthan, Pawan Sharma and president of women’s wing Poonam Parashar Jha.
Delhi will vote on April 23 for civic elections while the result will be announced on April 26. The three municipal corporations have 272 wards and BJP has 153 councillors.
