In order to resolve parking problem, South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to construct automated parking sites in four prominent markets having substantial foot fall.
The decision was taken after a number of meetings with the lieutenant-Governor and representatives of municipal Corporation, Delhi Development Authority, traffic police and official of transport department were held. The sites for the new parking have been selected on the basis of a survey conducted for this purpose.
Standing Committee chairman Bhupender Gupta stated that the city's population and number of vehicles is increasing day by day, resulting in severe parking problem. "Apart from this the city is facing traffic congestion, air pollution, increasing road accidents, and cases of road rage due to parking related issues.
Gupta further said the standing committee has given its nod for construction of shuttle type automated car parking for 200 cars with an estimated cost of Rs. 29crore 58 lakh at Greater Kailash (GK)-I, at M-block market. "The committee also approved construction of tower type automated car parking for 180 cars with an estimated cost of Rs. 24crore 20 lakh at GK-II, M-block market, Malviya Nagar market, and SDA market opposite IIT Delhi," he said.
