Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Thursday said that the resolution adopted by the Delhi Assembly to reserve 85 per cent of seats in admission for city students in 28 Delhi University colleges is nothing but just an attempt to hide its failures.
Maken also said that the party has decided not to attend the joint session of Parliament on Good and Services Tax (GST) that is scheduled to be held on Friday. “The party will support Delhi bandh called by the traders on Friday. The party will also hold district-level protest and demonstrations against GST,” he said.
Ajay Maken said that there are 12 colleges which are being funded 100 per cent by the Delhi Government whereas there are 16 colleges which receive only five per cent grant from the Delhi Government.
“The AAP has been in power for the last three years and it had promised to open 20 new colleges in Delhi in its manifesto but not even a single new college has been opened by the AAP Government till date,” he said. “Delhi University was established under an act of the Parliament and can only be amended by the Parliament,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ajay Maken also announced nominations for Municipal Councillors Abhishek Dutt in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mukesh Goel in North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Rinku in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation respectively. “These three leaders will be taking decisions on behalf of the Indian National Congress in their respective Municipal Corporations,” Maken said.
