Friday, 31 March 2017 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

A 45-year-old woman and a 24-year-old youth were allegedly shot dead by unidentified men at an isolated agricultural land in Southwest Delhi’s Chhawla on Thursday. Police sources said in the aftermath of the double murder, the police have been trying to get in touch with the families of the two victims but their houses are found to be locked.

“We have sent the bodies of the two victims for post-mortem at the Rao Tula Ram hospital. No one from their families have come forward so far,” said a senior police officer.

Ruling out the probability of gang war as one of the main motives behind the double murder, a senior police officer said, “Anshul, son of Meena, has been involved in the murder of Dinesh a few months back in Najafgarh area. Apart from the murder of Dinesh, Anshul, a notorious criminal is also wanted in two to three murders across Delhi and Haryana. So far, we suspect Anshul’s role behind the brutal murder of his mother and the youth.”

Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) said the deceased have been identified as Meena (45) and Sharad (24). Both the woman and the youth hail from the same native place in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the incident was reported at around 2.30 pm a few kilometres away from the Shikarpur village-Gurugram stretch where a passerby spotted a woman and a youth lying in a pool of blood next to a scooty.

“Meena was heading towards Gurugram with Sharad on his scooty when they were shot dead. Each of the victim had sustained two bullet injuries. Apart from the two bullets found in the body of the two victims, no bullet shells have been recovered from the crime scene. In the absence of the CCTV footage and eyewitnesses in the double murder, we are finding it difficult to establish the exact sequence of events.”

Police said they have registered a case of murder against unknown persons at the Chhawla police station. Police said they are trying to ascertain the exact sequence of events. Further investigation is underway.
