Human Rights Watch on Thursday accused Bangladeshi security forces of “kneecapping” Opposition members and supporters by deliberately shooting them in the leg and then falsely claiming to have acted in self-defence. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan rejected the report, saying police were only shooting at criminals as a “last resort”.
The 45-page report quoted victims recounting how they had been shot without provocation by police officers who then claimed that they had opened fire in self-defence.
