The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Saturday said a certain section of safai karamcharis have stopped working without having any valid reason even though they have been provided salary.
“This unilateral action on the part of these employees is uncalled for, untenable and illegal. These employees of the SDMC are well aware of the fact that timely salaries are being paid to them apart from the various welfare measures being taken for them. Since providing sanitation services is one of the obligatory function of the SDMC, this dereliction of duties by the safai karamcharis is causing inconvenience to the residents and it cannot be viewed with equanimity,” said an official.
Further, the corporation advised the employees to report for duties immediately, failing which the concerned authority will have to resort stern action as per the relevant provisions of law, regulations and rules applicable to the employees of the SDMC.
