The Maharashtra Government on Saturday appointed senior IPS officer Satish Mathur as the State’s new Director General Police (DGP).
A 1981 batch IPS officer, Mathur succeeds Pravin Dixit, who superannuates on Sunday.
Mathur had been appointed as the Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in April this year. He will continue to hold the charge as the DG (ACB) till a successor is announced.
He had earlier served as Managing Director of Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (MSPHWC) and as the DGP (legal & Technical), both relatively low-profile posts. He had been the Police Commissioner of Pune for some time.
Mathur holds the distinction of being the first IPS officer to be trained by the National Security Guard (NSG). He also did a stint with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In 1993, he was part of the team that investigated the 1993 serial blasts case.
He had also worked for Air India as its Chief Vigilance Officer.
