Fifteen days have passed and there is no trace of the missing MSc student, Najeeb Ahmad of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). While the students protested outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Friday posing questions to the department about the progress in the case, sources said police did another search operation on the JNU campus on Saturday.
Ahmad went missing on October 15 after an alleged brawl with ABVP activists in the night, reason behind which is yet not clear even as the enquiry is in process, said sources.
"Police searched across the JNU campus in plain clothes to look for Najeeb once again...since there has been no clue of him elsewhere, police wanted to clear the suspicion that he might be found somewhere on the campus," a source told The Pioneer.
The family had earlier said that they suspect Ahmad has been abducted and kept within the hostel. "We strongly feel he is being held captive in Mahi-Mandavi hostel or another hostel of the university as police did not find a single clue of Ahmad going outside even after forming several teams and sending out alerts. Even though JNU administration claims to have scoured the campus for him, it needs to cooperate more with police and allow them to hunt for him room-to-room," Ahmad's cousin Agdas Musharraf had told this newspaper.
Sources said there is a greater possibility that police also searched within the hostel premises along with the JNU officials. The fear of “Ahmad's life having been harmed” is rising with days passing on without any clues about him, said the source.
Earlier, students organisations, including NSUI, had submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee and lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung to expedite the investigation.
