Ousted legal adviser a blot on Jamia varsity's reputation: Teachers

Sunday, 31 January 2016 | PNS | New Delhi

Several Jamia Staff Associations have “accused former legal adviser of Jamia Millia Islamia of maligning the reputation of the iconic institution” directly associated with the freedom movement.

The letter issued jointly to the media by several associations of Jamia, including Jamia Teachers’ Association, Jamia School Teachers’ Association, Jamia Administrative Staff Association, Jamia Administrative Staff Association and Shafiqueur Rehman Kidwai Association, wrote, “It is unfortunate that a disgruntled lawyer, who after remaining associated with Jamia continuously for over 20 years, is indulging in defamatory activities against the very institution that earned him self and pelf.”

The letter said it’s deplorable that despite the university showing utter transparency and not concealing any information asked for, he is currently active in a spree of anti-university campaign using the information obtained through RTI and getting it published to imply as if the university is involved in unauthorised activities. “If he feels that the expenditure of `26 lakhs for NAAC arrangements was inappropriate, what deterred him to advice the administration against it when he himself was the legal adviser at that time and a part of the processIJ When the Jamia community is concerned about its minority character, the disruptive activities of the former legal adviser in tandem with his friend reflect the nefarious political designs and destructive bent of mind of the person(s) who are relegating the wider cause of the community in a bid to avenge the removal of the legal adviser,” said the letter.
