Calling for pollution-free and environmentally safe celebrations, lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Saturday greeted the citizens on the eve of Diwali.

He urged them to take all the necessary precautions, especially with regard to children.

"May this year's Diwali bring happiness to all our people and may the festival of lights illuminate every household and become a source of joy and contentment for all," Jung said in a statement issued by the l-G’s office.

He said Diwali symbolises the victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. “People live in mutual respect and harmony and contribute positively towards the development of society,” he said.
