Matt Smith talks about his upcoming film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies that is all set to release in India on February 12. Excerpts of the interview
In Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Mr Collins brings in a lot of humour. Is that your main role in the movieIJ
I think that’s probably what I ended up doing it. When I looked at the character, I just thought it would be really interesting if what if actually he’s secretly in love with Darcy.
Is that really something you added to the roleIJ
I don’t know if it’s actually in the movie, but it’s what I played throughout the movie is that actually he’s in love with Darcy. He doesn’t want to marry any of them; he just wants to be around Darcy.
Did you know Sam Riley beforeIJ Is that coming out of a bromance between you twoIJ
I did know Sam, and also know that he is an incredibly attractive, lovely man. It’s not hard. I think with anything, especially a story like this — for me, as an actor — you’ve got to find an interesting way into it. It’s a genuine thing. I said: ‘look, I’m up for it if we can sort of play it like this’. And he was said in a much deeper voice: ‘Cool, man. That sounds real cool. I like that’. Maybe no one will even know, but there’s a few little glimpses where you go.
Was this movie an easy yes for youIJ It's been in production since 2009.
I know, a long time. Well, basically all of my friends were doing it, so I’m like, ‘yes’. I’m really good friends with Doug Booth. I’ve worked with him before; and Jack Huston and Sam. I thought it would be a fun shoot, which indeed it was.
