MElISSA MCCARTHY talks about her role in Ghostbusters and shares anecdotes from the sets

How would you describe your characterIJ

My character is Abby and I love that she is a true believer, no matter how many people said: ‘You’re crazy’ or ‘you’re weird’. I love being able to play a character that’s so strong in her own shoes that she just doesn’t care what other people think. She just stays positive and says, Everyone can make fun of me but it doesn’t bother me at all.

Anything funny or weird that happened on setIJ

ParanormalIJ If you look closely, you realise leslie Jones is never on the ground. And we always slip papers underneath. She’s so tall, she looks like she’s floating.

This is not your first collaboration with director Paul Feig. Did he approach you for this movieIJ

Yes, he came to me. I keep going back because he is great at what he does. He makes the set an incredibly fun place. He’s happy and joyful, and full of crazy ideas and he thinks all your crazy ideas are good ideas. He’s the ultimate cheerleader with a good aesthetic of knowing. You can’t make a a fool of yourself with Paul. He just makes you feel like you can try anything and succeed.

How did Chris Hemsworth fit into the comedyIJ

He’s an unbelievable improviser. It was really surprising. He’s just downright funny to his core.

Was there some kind of Ghostbusters bootcamp that you had to go through before the movie startedIJ

I trained for the action. listened to leslie Jones scream on a wire.

What frightens you in real lifeIJ

I’m afraid of rodents. They could make me pack up and move.

If you were involved in any paranormal situation.

No, I’m still waiting. I welcome it. I still talk to people who pass on, like my grandparents. I’m pretty sure they’re like: ‘Shut up’.
