A group of middlemen of the town have duped a number of youths of Rs two crore promising them jobs in the railways. Thirteen unemployed youths of Andhra Pradesh have filed a case in this connection in the Paralakhemundi police station.
Sources said the Parlakhemundi police have lodged a case against an Excise Department ASI and two others on Monday in this regard.
According to the complaint, an educated unemployed youth of Sitampeta Village in Andhra Pradesh, limca Rajesh had given Rs three lakhs to Excise Department ASI Sugu Simalam Reddy, Narsingha Khadagray and Sudam Guru in 2012 for a permanent job in the railways.
After receiving the money, the trio asked him to inform some more youths like him about the railway jobs, so that they can get employment at a time. later, 12 youths known to Rajesh gave Rs three to four lakhs to the aforesaid middlemen in installments. As at that time, Sugu Simalam was an ASI in Parlakhemundi Excise Department they trusted him and gave the money. Now, Simalam is working as an ASI in the Rayagada Excise Department.
later, at different dates till May 2016 they were provided with admit cards, medical test letter and even appointment letters. However, the railway officials informed the duped youths that all the documents are forged and asked them to take action or take back their money from the three fraudsters.
Rattled by the developments they asked the trio to return their money, but they asked the youths for some time. But later, despite a number of visits, the duped youths were unable to meet the fraudsters. Finding no other way out , the youths contacted a town -based lawyer D Venkat Rao ,who after coming to know about their plight advised them to lodge a case.
The duped youths have informed that more than 40 youths of Andhra Pradesh, Rayagada and Gajapati district have shelled out more than Rs two crore to these fraudsters hopeful of getting a job in the railways. If a thorough investigation is conducted the truth would be revealed, the youths said. The Parlakhemundi PS IIC Babuli Nayak said a case has been lodged bearing no- 184 in this connection.
