Haryana Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu on Friday said that the food processing units were being provided several incentives and concessions under the new Haryana Enterprises Promotion Policy-2015.
While the policy has started yielding positive results, a lot more work is yet to be done. It is high time to boost economy by promoting agro-based industries and food processing units, said he while speaking at a two-day national workshop on ‘Role of Industry in Economic Development of Northern Western States’ here.
He said, “There is a need to focus on industrial, services and agricultural sectors for building a strong economy. About 50 per cent of the population depends on agriculture sector for occupation.” Therefore, promotion of food processing units is the need of the hour as it would lead to increase in farmers’ income. In this direction, the states would have to provide direct access to primary producers, he said.
The Minister said that skilled workers played an important role in development of industries. The State Government is focusing on skill development of youth as industries require 5,000 skilled workers every year, added he.
Notably, to empower youth for gainful employment, Haryana Government has set a target to provide skill training to 21,000 youths at a cost of Rs 25 crore in the year 2016-17.
More than 80,000 persons in Haryana were imparted skill development training under the Haryana Skill Development Mission during 2015-16.
