A woman journalist and social activist while attending a State Woman Commission (SWC) camp court held at the district Collector's office here on Wednesday was manhandled and misbehaved by a SWC employee, who had accompanied the commission members. The scribe Milan Jena lodged an FIR against the SWC employee Trilochan Nayak at the Jagatsinghpur police station. She received treatment at the headquarters hospital and apprised Collector about the incident. Collector Yamini Sarangi has asked for a probe into the incident.
The SWC had organised the camp for adjudicating woman related cases as consequence. Hundreds of women litigants accompanied by their lawyers and family members were present at the SWC camp, which as inaugurated by the Collector. Then, SWC Members Snehasini Mohanty and Kusum Rath held the court.
Trouble surfaced at registration counter when Milan accompanied a few women litigants and approached SWC employee Nayak seeking registration of her cases. As Nayak did not respond promptly, she disclosed her media credential. But Nayak still ignored her saying that so-called women activists are misleading women litigants downsizing the credibility of the SWC and he does not bother giving importance to a journalist. Nayak's statement created a furor as Milan and Nayak engaged in exchange of words and an enraged Nayak pushed Milan on to the floor by pressing a sensitive part of her body. Milan started slapping Nayak. Then Milan lodged an FIR against Nayak. The police have, however, not registered a case stating that investigation is on taking into account the footage of CCTV installed at the camp court and other circumstantial evidences.
