Two youths died when a truck rammed into the two-wheeler they were sitting on at Doiwala in Dehraudn on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Rajkumar, resident of Dharmchakra, Doiwala and his neighbour Neeraj Kumar.
Both are reported to be working as drivers in two separate private colleges. Police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident by the local residents. The bodies were sent for postmortem.
Police said that two youths going to Dehradun from Doiwala on the bike. Both died before police reached the spot. A Doiwala-based police officer said a case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver. Team has been formed to investigate the case.
With accidents continuing to take tolls despite police claiming to have tightened its belts to control them, daily commuters expressed doubt about the police claims and questioned steps taken by police.
“State DGP MA Ganapathy has recently directed the district police officers to launch a drive of creating awareness on road safety and to enforce the motor vehicle act strictly, to stop road accidents. We doubt whether such programmes would stop accidents from taking the people’s lives,” said a senior citizen from Dehradun.
