Two more children died of the deadly Japanese Encephalitis (JE) virus on Saturday, taking the toll in the vector-borne disease to 76 in Malkangiri district.
According to reports, the deceased were identified as Bhima Madhi (5) of Gouriguda village and Mamata Madhi (1) of Buduriguda village under Korkonda block in the district.
While Bhima died during treatment at the Kalimela Community Health Centre (CHC), Mamata succumbed to the disease at the ICU of the District Headquarters Hospital.
Upset over the alleged slipshod attitude of the State Government in tackling the spread of the JE menace, senior BJP leader and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has planned to visit the tribals-dominated district on November 4 to take stock of the situation.
Pradhan would visit the affected villages and meet the parents of the deceased children. Besides, he would meet the children undergoing treatment at the Malkangiri DHH and the treating doctors.
