Train services hit in Tatanagar-Chakradharpur section

Train services in the Tatanagar-Chakradharpur section of South Eastern Railway (SER) was affected for over five hours on Sunday due to repairing work of at an underpass (or road under bridge) between Adityapur and Gamharia railway stations.

The South Eastern Railway headquarters in Kolkata had declared a “Traffic cum Power Block” from 11 am due to the repairing work.

Several trains were short-terminated and re-scheduled. The Tatanagar-Dhanbad Subernarekha Express left for Dhanbad from Kandra railway station instead of Tatanagar the originating station. The return train from Dhanbad short-terminated at Kandra.

The Hatia-Tatanagar Passenger  train was short terminated at Gomoh. The train ran as Tatanagar-Hatia Passenger from Gomoh. The Asansol-Tatanagar Memu Passenger  was short terminated at Kandra railway station  while the Tatanagar- Kharagpur MEMU Passenger was delayed by about one hour.

The Titlagarh-Howrah Superfast Ispat Express was short-terminated for about one hour at the Kandra railway station. Officials at the railway enquiry at Tatanagar said that the Sainagar-Shirdi-Howrah Express was also short-terminated for over hour at the Gamharia railway station.

The Tatanagar-Jammu Tawi Express and Tatanagar-Barkakana Passenger left one hour after their scheduled departure.  Both the trains  left Tatanagar at 4 pm instead of 3 pm.

Station manager at Tatanagar, O P Sharma said that it was announced earlier so that the passengers plan their journey accordingly.

The movement of trains were restricted due to repairing work of a railway underpass between Adityapur and Gamharia. “Normal train services were restored in the evening,” he said adding that a similar railway block had restricted movement of train services in the Tatanagar - Chakradharpur railway section last Sunday.

Meanwhile, passengers had a tough time due to disruption in the train services. The enquiry counters of Tatanagar railway station were flooded with anxious passenger.

The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express.

The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
