Three docs punished for female foeticide in 5 yrs

Three doctors have been convicted in female foeticide case and awarded punishment under the PC and PNDT Act during the last five years in the State.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak informed this in the Assembly in response to a question of BJP member Dr Bibhuti Bhsushan Harichandan on Friday.

The three doctors Dr Ramani Ranjan Tripathy, Dr Purna Chandra Pradhan and Dr SD Sharma had been convicted by the SDJM Court, the Minister informed.

A State Advisory Committee headed by the Health Minister and a State-level Advisory Committee headed by the NHM MD are functioning for smooth execution of the PC and PNTD Act.

Similarly, district-level Advisory Committees headed by district Collectors have been formed for the purpose, the Minister said.
