ICAR- Central institute Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) launched the celebration of Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan week on December 23 to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and late Chaudhary Charan Singh.
The celebration was held keeping in view their immense contribution for promoting use of science for the welfare of farmers. ICAR-CIFA and KVK Khordha held various farmer awareness programmes to showcase and demonstrate technological advances for enhancing productivity and profitability of agriculture.
Ten progressive farmers who have successfully adopted latest technologies and have made contribution in wide scale adoption of technologies by farmers were honored.
ICAR-CIFA Director P Jayasankar spoke about doubling the farmers’ income, science based and technology led farming. Former Assistant Director for Research, OUAT Damodar Parida and Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar Jatinder Kishtwaria, graced the launch workshop.
The weeklong celebration had trainings, interaction meet and demonstration of new technologies and other extension activities involving farmers of Khordha district. KVK-Khordha conducted a series of extension programmes on improved banana cultivation, interaction meet on cluster demonstration of pulses, training programme on oyster and paddy straw mushroom.
The final day of the celebration week on Thursday had a formal meeting with 120 farmers benefitted from KVK-Khordha and the beneficiaries of Farmers First Project of ICAR-CIFA. OUAT Dean, Extension Education SK Rout was the chief guest and Honorary Professor of OUAT SR Das was present.
