A team of pediatric surgeons examined the condition of the mystery double-headed baby at the associated hospital of the Doon Medical College (DMC) on Wednesday. The Siamese twins were born on Saturday after a caesarian operation.
The team of Dr Madhukar Muletha of Mahant Indiresh Hospital and Dr Sachin Suri of DMC thoroughly examined the conjoined twins on the day and reportedly were of the view that the life of the twins is at peril.

He said that the twins are having separate spinal cords and separate pair of vital organs like lungs and kidneys. The chances of survival of the twins are extremely low as they are born with a plethora of complexities. Further the facilities at the DMC are not of such high standards that an operation to separate them can be taken upon.
The twins were delivered by a poor lady belonging to Dhanloti area of Tehri on Saturday. A team of gynecologists and surgeons of the DMC performed a complex caesarian operation for the delivery.
The twins are rare in medical field and are kept at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the associated hospital of DMC. The new born child specialist, Dr Aviral Kalra said this is probably first reported case of Siamese twins in Uttarakhand. Conjoined twins or Siamese twins are identical twins joined at the time of birth. It is an extremely rare phenomenon, occurrence is estimated from one in 50000 births to 189000 births. The medical experts inform that the condition arises due to some malfunctioning at the time of embryo development.
