With the public hitting the streets across the State demanding immediate arrest of BJD leader and actor Tattwa Prakash Satpathy alias Papu Pompom for sexually exploiting a minor girl, the Commissionerate police have formed a special team headed by an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP)-rank officer to nab the absconding comedian.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi said the Mahila police and the ACP of Zone-I have been directed to take the casting couch case forward. "They will track the movements of Satpathy and his close aide Pradip Swain and conduct raids at various suspected locations to nab them," said Bhoi.
Meanwhile, at the end of its 12-hour deadline, the BJP women wing on Wednesday staged a demonstration near the actor's Khandagiri house here demanding his immediate arrest. The agitators torched tyres on the road blocking vehicular movement for a while. They also burnt an effigy of the actor, who had unsuccessfully contested from the Champua Assembly constituency on a BJD ticket in 2014.
Besides, many women groups and civil society organisations took out protests marches at various parts of the State, including Jajpur and Puri, demanding his arrest. A hundred of women activists of the Naba Utkal Mahila Samiti in Jajpur held a rally and burnt an effigy of the actor. They accused the State Government of shielding the actor.
Meanwhile, apprehending possible arrest over the casting couch FIR lodged against them by actress Sharmistha Priyadarshini at the Mahila police station here, senior Ollywood directors Chandi Parija and Subrat Nayak have moved the Orissa HC seeking anticipatory bail.
last week, the actress had lodged a complaint with the Mahila police against film producers Bini Samal, Nihar Samal and Subrat Nayak, directors Chandi Parija and Tapas Sargariha and event manager Bapi Jena alleging that they sought sexual favours from her for providing her plum roles in TV serials.
