Solar Puncturewala, an innovative and first of its kind technology, has been installed at Kaniguma village of Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi district. This system is an example of unlimited potential of solar energy in need-based rural innovation that can help thousands of youngsters running their own puncture shops (small cycle and motorcycle repair shops).
The system consists of an air compressor powered by solar energy that is used to fill air in two wheeler, three wheeler and four wheeler tyres. This first of its kind innovation has been conceptualised, tested and implemented by Batti Ghar Foundation, a new generation non-profit social development enterprise established in January last.
led by its president Prasanta Biswal who has a decade long experience in solar energy innovations across the country and abroad, Batti Ghar aims to co-create unconventional innovative entrepreneurial opportunities for rural and tribal youth in Odisha.
The system is very affordable and costs between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 and can run for years with very less maintenance. BattiGhar is planning to install 100 Solar Puncturewala kits across rural Odisha over next six months.
