SIT files chargesheet against nine accused

Acting in the case of the alleged rape and abortion of a mentally challenged inmate of Nari Niketan, the State-run shelter home for women in distress, the SIT has filed a charge-sheet against nine accused.  Case has been registered under sections 376- 2(d)/218/201/120b/34 of the IPC against three persons- Gurdas, Mohammad Hasim, lalit Singh Bisht, while sections 218/201/120b/34 were applied against the six other accused, all women, in the charge-sheet.

Sub-inspector Kavita Joshi had filed the charge- sheet in the court of Judicial Magistrate-1 on Saturday, said SP City Ajay Singh who is also in-charge of SIT formed to crack the case of alleged rape / abortion of a speech and hearing impaired inmate of Nari Niketan after this issue came into light.

Notably, police claimed to have cracked the case by arresting a 54-year- old person Gurdas, resident of Anbari, Vikasnagar from Haridwar.

The accused had admitted to having committed the crime and was subsequently sent to Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court.

Dehradun SSP Dr Sadanand Date had said that SIT had arrested the accused after his DNA sample had positively matched with that of the survivor and also with the three-month old dead foetus recovered from Dudhali forest area in course of investigation by SIT members.

SIT had earlier collected DNA sample of all the male employees who were deputed at Nari Niketan, Dehradun and sent them to forensic science laboratory (FSl) at Panditwari,

In course of investigation, SIT had so far arrested nine persons- all employees of the shelter home. Aside from Gurudas, eight other accused against whom charge-sheets have been filed are Kiran Nautiyal, Chandrakala Kshetri, Samanigar, Anita Mendola, Krishna Kanchha, Minakshi Pokhriyal, Mohammad Hasim, lalit Singh Bisht.

They were sent to Sudhowala jail after being produced in the court. Notably, one of them secured bail from the High Court.

The probe had started after Nehru Colony police station sub -inspector Krishna Jayara had registered a report in the same police station on November 27 and a case (FIR number- 245/15) under sections 376(2)(d)/218/201/120b and 34 of IPC was registered against unidentified Nari Niketan employees.
