A 14-year-old boy of Bonei sub-division of Sundargarh district, suffering from a genetic disease, is now bedridden and due to poverty, he is deprived of advanced healthcare.
Dipak, who developed paralysis of his limbs all of a sudden, is son of Bhubaneswar Sahu, resident of Jharbeda village under Gurundia block.
Bhubaneswar works as a daily labour. Besides Dipak, he has another son and daughter. Dipak is the eldest.
Dipak passed 8th class last year. He stood first in exam. His health condition was alright till that time. However, during the summer vacation last year, Dipak’s legs did not function and thereafter his left hand and right hand also did not function. Panicked over the development, Dipak’s parents took him to the Boei sub divisional hospital but the medicine specialist after checking him there, referred him to VIMSAR, Burla. The parents admitted Dipak in VIMSAR, Burla, where no improvement was noticed. So they took him to the Ispat General Hsopital, Rourkela and later to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. But there has not yet been any improvement in his health condition. Dipak is lying on bed all the time and for his routine work, his parents help him.
According to Dr Amulya Kumar Dash, who treated Dipak, the boy is suffering from muscular dysprophy, a genetic disease. Though Dipak’s parents are eager to take him to any super specialty hospital where he can be cured but finance is a constraint. “Since we don’t have money, I do not know how and when I will be cured,” said Dipak while sobbing.
