Security drill ahead of President's visit

With the administration, intent on ensuring a fool-proof security ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee’s April 1 Uttarakhand visit, a mock drill was held on Wednesday to check security preparedness. Mukherjee would attend a programme at Swami Ram Himalayan University, Jollygrant, Doiwala.

The senior police and administrative officers of the State have inspected the routes through which President’s fleet would pass to reach the programme venue. President would reach Jollygrant Airport at 4.10 pm on April 1 from where he would depart for the progarmme venue at Swami Ram Himalayan University at 4.30 pm. After the programme is over, President would leave the venue at 5.40 pm for Jollygrant Airport from where he would depart for Delhi at5.50 pm the same day.

DM Ravinath Raman along with senior police officers took stock of the security during the mock drill. Police briefing was also held at programme venue where State additional director general of police (law and order) Anil Kumar Raturi, ADGP (intelligence) Ashok Kumar and IG Sanjay Gunjyal addressed the police personnel and administrative officers.  Adequate police forces have been deputed at the event venues and strategic locations across the city.

As part of the elaborate security arrangements, four SPs, nine DSPs, 18 inspectors/ police station in-charges, 51 sub-inspectors, nine women sub-inspectors, 29 head constables, 300 constables, 24 women constables, 21 armed police forces, one traffic inspector, two traffic sub-inspectors, four traffic head constables and 11 traffic constables and four companies of PAC have been deputed for  the  purpose.

The traffic plan has been drafted and several routes have been changed to avoid inconvenience to the common people. CCTVs are being used to monitor the traffic movement and activities at major intersections. The vehicles entering the city are also being checked. Traffic will be diverted on several roads during the President’s visit. All possible measures have been taken to ensure smooth holding of the events, Dehradun SSP  Sadanand Date said.
