Uttarakhand police are yet to trace eight persons who are feared swept away in rivers at two different districts over the past five days. SDRF, water police and local police are still engaged in tracing the missing in the rivers in Tehri and Pithoragarh districts. However, a body was recovered from the Ganga in Rishikesh. It is yet to be identified.
In Tehri district, three SDRF personnel -Hament Singh (26), resident of Sijar; Jakhan Devi, Almora; Puran Singh, resident of Ranikhet, Almora; and Virendra Singh, resident of Rawal Sera, Almora- are feared to have swept away in Ganga when the car they were in tumbled into the river at Pant Village under Devprayag block of Tehri district on Friday night.
Superintendent of Police Tehri, Barinderjit Singh on Wednesday said that the car driver had lost control while negotiating a sharp bend at Tilanga crossing, resulting in the car plunge in Ganga.
SDRF, local police station, Devprayag and Jal Police were pressed into relief and rescue operation after the incident was reported. The car was lifted from Ganga on Saturday. Singh said that a body of around 25 year old person has been recovered from the ganga river, Rishikesh on Wednesday. However body is yet to be identified, he added.
In another accident in Pithoragarh district, five persons were swept away in river Jauljivi, when the car they were in skidded off the road and fell into the river on Monday.
The recue and search operation by the teams is on to trace the five missing bodies, said Pithoragarh SP Roshan lal Sharma. He said that along with local police, SDRF and water police have been pressed into service to trace the missing persons.
