At least four persons are reported to have died and hundreds of families have been affected in various villages of Tehri and Uttarkashi district following heavy rain on May 28. As per information received by the authorities regarding damage caused by heavy rain in remote rural mountainous areas,
Heavy rain on Saturday affected 32 villages in Ghansali Tehsil of Tehri district with two human deaths and 70 cattle deaths also being reported. Similarly, in the Dunda and Chinyalisaud Tehsils of Uttarakashi district, since the heavy rains, two persons have reportedly died with no trace yet of the two other persons reported missing. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh chaired a video conference with the district magistrates to review the status of pre-monsoon preparations on Monday.
According to information received from the Tehsildar of Ghansali in Tehri district, heavy rain caused damage in Sitakot, Kothiyada, Girgaon, Silyara, Kopt, Saruna, Ardhangi and Kreta villages under Ghansali Tehsil as two people died, five injured, 700 families affected and 550 buildings estimated to have been damaged.
Additionally, reports have been received about the death of 70 cattle and 30 cattle being injured with 650 families in the area having been affected by flood debris entering their homes. By Sunday evening, the authorities claim to have provided immediate relief amount of Rs 3,800 to each of the 130 affected families of Kothiyada with the same also being provided to the remaining affected villagers. Of these families 90 families are reported to have been provided solar light and food stuff by the local administration with the distribution also continuing on Sunday.
Search and rescue operations are being conducted by personnel of the State Disaster Response Force, police force and Revenue dept teams. According to reports from the Dunda and Chinyalisaud Tehsils of Uttarkashi district, two persons have died and two are missing apart from eight buffaloes, 12 oxen, seven cows, one calf and 166 goats are also reported to have died.
The Rishikesh-Gangotri NH 108 is open for vehicles up to Gangotri while the Rishikesh-Yamunotri NH 94 is open for vehicles up to Janakichatti. The Dharasu-Jogat road is blocked by debris. The PWD has deployed two mechanical excavators to work on clearing the road of debris.
According to information received by the State emergency operation centre from the Chamoli district emergency operation centre, the Tharali-Ghat motor road has been opened up to the seven kilometer mark though officials estimate that they will require two-three days to clear the remaining stretch of the blocked road.
The Rishikesh-Badrinath NH 58 is open till Badrinath for small and large vehicles. According to information from the Rudraprayag district emergency operation centre, the Rishikesh-Kedarnath NH 109 has been kept open for traffic upto Gaurikund for small and large vehicles while the Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path has also remained open.
