Saints to help in prevention of malaria in Simhastha

For the prevention of malaria in the Simhastha area, the administration will seek the help of the saints. The squad of the Health department has chosen four representatives from the followers of each saint and is giving them training on how to recognize larva of the malaria infesting mosquitoes.

This information was given by the Principal Secretary of Health department Gouri Singh during the meeting of the health committee formed especially for Simhastha. Kishore Khandelwal made the principal secretary aware of the health issues in the Simhastha area. The principal secretary reviewed the health arrangements in the Mela area.

In the meeting it was informed that the followers of different saints are being given training in recognizing the larva that may spread malaria. Once they are taught to recognize, on receiving information from them the larva can be destroyed.

On this occasion it was revealed that as many as 6,000 patients per day have been coming to the OPD of temporary hospitals installed, with fever, vomiting, loo or stomachache and were treated. Till now approximately 20,000 patients have been treated with medicines in the Mela area.

 To prevent malaria,

 starting April 12, a survey was carried out to recognize

mosquito larva in Kaal Bhairav, Mangalnath, Dutt Akhada, Mahakal, Chamunda and Triveni areas. In these areas a total of 4,773 tents and houses in which 1,76,028 containers and other stagnated water sources were checked. A total of 15,107 ml medicine was sprayed in these areas.

 In these areas the insecticide Alpha-Cypermethrine 5 per cent was sprayed in 43,000 rooms. More than 478 kg insecticide has been used. Similarly, the health department has carried out fogging in all the tents, houses and other installments in the area.

 In the meeting it was also informed that the pilgrims are constantly being made aware of malaria and its risks and training representatives to recognize mosquito larva that may spread malaria.

The pilgrims and saints were also advised to change the water in every four to five days. The principal secretary also suggested spreading the information on malaria throughout the Mela area using loud speakers. To recognize the health department squad members in the Mela area separate jackets will be given to them.
