On May 1 – International labour Day - the Samajwadi Party government will formally launch pension schemes for labourers and will also announce subsidised lunch packs for them.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would also join labourers in a community lunch to express his concern for the community.
A senior government official said that the government is set to announce several sops for the labourers on May 1. "This will include a pension scheme, distribution of free bi-cycles and launching of the first phase of subsidized lunch packets at four places in lucknow," he said.
The subsidised lunch packets would cost just Rs 10 each and will contain get fresh dal, sabzi, four rotis along with acchar and salad. Though the cost of each food packet would be Rs 48, the state government would bear the rest of the cost.
On May 1, the CM will distribute the lunch packs to labourers working at Awadh Vihar Yojana, Vrindavan Enclave, Amausi Metro station and New Secretariat building in the first phase.
“Only registered labourers could avail this facility. The labour department will start registration of labourers soon,” the official said
later in the day, Yadav is expected to visit the new Secretariat building to meet labourers and review the progress of the building which is expected to be complete by the year end.
The officer said that the high point of May Day celebration will be the CM’s community lunch. No other CM has shared a lunch with labourers and hence would be unique," he said.
Earlier former Chief Minister Rajnath Singh had joined a community lunch with Coolies on Makar Sankranti in 2003.
