RMC to begin awareness drive

Ranchi Municipal Corporation, in order to push construction of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) Units in all building, will distribute as many as 2.5 lakh pamphlets having all information about construction of rain water harvesting units in it. The RMC will soon implement Ranchi Municipal Corporation Rain Water Harvesting Regulation – 2016, which will come into force from the date of notification in official gazette.

According to the provisions under the rule, every owner of a house having a plot area of 300 square meter and above or every owner who proposes to construct a building on plot area 300 square meter or above shall provide for Rain Water Harvesting Structure in such a manner, with such conditions as provided in the schedule II and III of this regulation depending upon the category of the building failing which the RMC shall charge or cause to be levied holding tax 1.5 times over and above the normal holding tax.

“We have deadline of May 31 to June 15 before which one has to get it constructed in their buildings or fine will be imposed on them as under the provisions of law,” said RMC Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar.

The RMC will construct a RWH unit at Jila School in Ranchi for demonstration purpose and has invited all masons and contractors to go there and understand the process of construction. They can also satisfy their queries over through the experts. “School Principals have also been requested to install RWH units in their school for a greater cause of conservation of water,” said the Municipal Commissioner.

The RMC has also shortlisted 12 agencies – Pankaj Kumar Jha, M/S BP Constructions, M/S Advet Solar and Water, lakshya Technologies Private limited, Think Innovative Solutions, RK Enterprises, Abhishek Metals, M/S H2O Gas Cleaner, Vinay Prasad, Paryavaran Vimarsha and Hi-Tech Irrigation System, which will act as a felicitator which will assist the people in giving them time to time expertise in the construction of the unit.

“Building owners are free to get RWH units in their houses of their own but they will have to abide by the design approved by the RMC,” said the Commissioner. Three Toll-Free numbers – 18001212241 and 0651-7145511/12 have also been released from which any kind of information could be gathered in this regard, he added.

Counting on the achievements of RMC Water Board, Municipal Commissioner further added that in the current financial year 2015-16 a total of 5038 applications were received on line out of which 2593 applications have been disposed off and two more junior engineers have been deputed to look into it. Earlier in 2013-14 and 2014-15 only 2037 and 2290 water connections were given which is almost double of the earlier figure.

“As many 460 new handpumps have been installed this summer and 340 colonies are being supplied water through 60 tankers,” said Kumar.
