Demand to restrain retired judge of Orissa High Court Justice Madan Mohan Das from probing further into the multi-crore chit fund scam mounted across the State on Friday following his questionable remarks on the poor investors and making an attempt to give a clean chit to the State Government at a public meeting here on Thursday even when his inquiry is underway.
The Government has asked Justice Das to suggest measures as to how the small investors get back their money invested in the chit fund companies from the corpus fund set up by the Government.
Justice Das' presence at a BJD legal wing function here and giving repugnant statements in the presence of law Minister Arun Sahu has sparked severe criticism across the State.
Justice Das said at the meeting that investing in chit fund companies had taken the shape of a cottage industry and people had invested in these companies out of sheer greed. Giving a clean chit to the Government, he wondered why the Government should take the responsibility of returning the investors' money.
Hundreds of investors spontaneously joined a Congress-organised rally here on Friday demanding immediate removal of Justice Das from his assignment. Holding placards and shouting slogans, the protestors staged a dharna in front of Justice Das' office located in the State police headquarters.
Reports said similar protests were also held in Bhubaneswar and Puri.
