Rainwater harvest system at Joda unveiled

The Tata Steel has undertaken an innovative eco-friendly measure by building a scientific rainwater harvesting system at its Joda East Iron Mine (JEIM) to check the depletion of groundwater level.

Keonjhar Collector Dr N Thirumala Naik inaugurated the harvesting system on Friday in the presence of Tata Steel general manager (OMQ) MC Thomas. The project was implemented by Chennai-based KRG Rainwater Foundation at a cost of Rs 54 lakh.

Addressing the gathering, Collector Dr Naik outlined the emerging precarious ground water scenario across the country and lauded the Tata Steel’s efforts towards water conservation.

 Thomas said the water harvesting structure will also be utilized for irrigation purpose too, both for Khariff and Rabi crops in the adjacent cultivable land.

The inhabitants can use the fresh water for their day-to-day activities.Besides, a beautiful bathing ghat structure has also been made separately for both men and women for easy access to water. An exclusive change room for women is also made.
