A cloudy sky and rainfall in the morning brought relief to the people of Dehradun on Monday as the maximum and minimum temperatures plunged by a few notches. While the maximum temperature was reported three deg C below the normal, the minimum temperature was recorded one notch below the normal.
However, in Mukteshwar, the maximum temperature was recorded six degree below the normal. The Met office said that the rainy spell would continue on Tuesday too. The mountainous regions would have rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm. However, from Wednesday onwards, the dry spell would continue till June 3.
In Dehradun, the denizens looked happy as cloudy sky gave them respite from the scorching sun. “We are happy. We hope that such summer rains would continue for the coming days too, giving us relief from the searing heat,” said Anjali Bisht, resident of Dalanwala.
Met director Bikram Singh said that the weather forecast for Dehradun on Tuesday is mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35ºC and 21ºC respectively in Dehradun on Tuesday.
Over the past 24 hours by 8.30 am on Monday, light to moderate rainfall was reported in various parts of the State. While 8 mm rainfall was reported in Mussoorie, 2 mm in Ranichauri, 3 mm in Gairsain, 11 mm in Joshimath, 6 mm in Dhanauri, 21 mm in Munsiyari, 21.2 mm in Pithoragarh, 1 mm in Matela, 4 mm in Mukteshwar, 45.5 mm in Nainital, 1 mm in Champawat and 0.2 mm in Pantnagar.
Singh further informed that the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 33.1ºC (three degree below the normal) and 21.1ºC (one degree below the normal) in Dehradun while it was 18.6ºC (six degree below the normal) and 10.1ºC (two degree below the normal) in Mukteshwar, 23.0ºC (normal) and 14.0ºC (normal) in Tehri and 31.5ºC (six degree below the normal) and 21.2ºC (one degree below the normal) in Pantnagar on Monday.
