'Public continues to suffer even after 50 days of demonetisation'

Saturday, 31 December 2016 | PNS | Dehradun

Continuing the Congress party’s criticism of the demonetisation move, party’s Rajya Sabha member Pratap Singh Bajwa said that farmers, workers and the poor are the worst hit by the move. Alleging that members of the Bharatiya Janata Party had deposited black money in banks, he said that 50 days after demonetisation, the general public was still suffering the consequences.

Arriving in Dehradun as announced earlier to assess the impact of demonetisation, 50 days after the action was taken, Bajwa opined that farmers had been the worst hit by the demonetisation move along with labourers and others.

He further alleged that considerable sums of black money had been deposited in banks located in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Odisha. In addition to this, black money has also been used for the sale and purchase of land, he added. lambasting the BJP-led Union Government for not being able to resolving public grievances post-demonetisation, he alleged an ulterior motive of benefiting some commercial enterprises through tasks related to demonetisation. He said that BJP national president Amit Shah was also the head the Ahmedabad district cooperative bank and Rs 500 crore had been deposited in this bank a day after demonetisation was announced but this case has not been inquired into. The senior Congress leader said that 50 days after the demonetisation had been announced, the general public is still facing inconvenience, waiting in queues to access their own money deposited in banks. Apart from this, the economy of the nation had also suffered a substantial loss due to the move. Such is the public discontent due to demonetisation that in Punjab if the BJP-led government is re-elected to office, he will retire from active politics, added Bajwa.
